FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get your stones?

The majority of my stones come from gem and mineral shows and jewelry shows that I attend in the DFW area. I also buy from rock shops wherever I travel.

I prefer to buy stones in person. I want to see exactly what I am getting. I also like to talk to the vendors about where they source their stones.

My husband Scott does lapidary work (and is teaching me) so some of the stones are cabbed by him.

A very small percentage of the stones (less than 10%) I buy from online vendors.

What kind of wire do you use?

I use pure copper wire, sterling silver wire, and silver filled wire.

What is the difference between sterling silver wire and silver filled wire?

Sterling silver is 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent metal alloy, usually copper. I use this for pendants and some earrings.

Silver filled wire is sterling silver that has been mechanically bonded, using heat and pressure, to a copper core. It is a much thicker layer than plated wire, and can be hammered, soldered, and oxidized. It is much more durable than plated wire. It is a cost effective way to get the look and feel of sterling silver for a lower price. I use silver filled wire for earrings and bracelets.

The type of silver wire will be indicated in the product descriptions.

Will the metal tarnish?

All metals will oxidize (tarnish) over time. The exception is gold which will just appear dull. Oxidation is a naturally occurring process caused by exposure to oxygen and water. Metals can easily be cleaned and polished using a jewelry polishing cloth.

Each order is packed with a 2"x2" polishing pad and cleaning instructions. I do not recommend liquid cleaners as they can damage the stone.

Some of my jewelry pieces are intentionally oxidized to give them an antique appearance.

Do you do custom work?

At the moment, I'm not taking any custom orders. That may change in the future.

Do you ship internationally?

I am set up to ship to the US. If you are interested in making a purchase and you live in another country, please reach out using the Contact form with your exact shipping address and what you would like to order. I will get back to you with the cost of shipping.
